Could it be that it doesn't have any newer firmware else than the factory one?...it's not so "hidden" usually

I presume there are no updates released for that model. If you have a specific problem you might be able to get a non-publically available one via support but I guess most of the obvious bugs got shaken out on the v1 hardware.

Sorry, Richardm, but that makes no sense. All HP products have a firmware download page. A user might have to, for example, reload corrupted firmware. So where is the page for the J9802A? When I look up J9802A  in HP support, I am sent to the download for the obsolete J9449A version of the switch, which is faulty as IT DOES'T SUPPORT SPANNING TREE PROTOCOL!!!! which makes it extremely dangerous. I downloaded and read the release notes for the J9449A P.2.10 firmware, but it clearly does not support spanning tree and is thus the incorrect firmware for J9802A.

This product doesn't appear to have a download page. I'm not sure how you got to the old product download page; there's any number of ways to wander around the HP site. I usually start from h17007.www1.hp.com/uk/en/support

Here the v2 support page has no download link: http://h17007.www1.hp.com/uk/en/support/converter/index.aspx?productNum=J9802A

    whereas the v1 does http://h17007.www1.hp.com/uk/en/support/converter/index.aspx?productNum=J9449A

I don't think the 1810 models  have a console port, so you would likely be out of luck if the firmware was corrupt.

The issue is with this is, as a company we have purchased four of these devices with two of them being on different software versions. HP 1810-8G, PL.1.5, eCos-3.0, 1_12_8-customized-h and HP 1810-8G, PL.1.2, eCos-3.0, 1_12_8-customized-h both purchased at the same time.

I didn't say there would NEVER be updates for that model. If you follow the link in my earlier post, you'll find that PL1.5 is now available.
