    Hello Airheads,

Im trying to find information on the differen aruba switches and I stumbled upon 2930M and its combo ports.

It seems that for example JL322A has 44 G ports with PoE+ and 4 combo ports.

Is this "better" than the 2930F and its 48 G ports with PoE+?

Can someone explain to me in general what the combo ports are and what the advantage of having them are?

    Hi,

The 4 combo ports on the model JL322A will allow you to use the ports as either 100/1000Mbps UTP or SFP 10/100/1000. You can not use the two options at the same time.

In the case of the model 2930M JL323A you will also have the 4 combo ports and also one expansion slot that will allow you install a new module of 10Gbs, for example, if you need one in the future.

The best option for you will depend on the usage and requirements that you have for you network.

Can you then on 2930M JL322A use the 4 combo ports to have a total of 48 gigabit ports?

And then install JL083A expansion module in the back for SFP+?

    All at the same time?

    Hi,

In my last post I wrote that the mode JL323A was a 2930F but it is actually the 2930M.

Answering your questions. Yes, you can use the model JL322A as 48 UTP ports. But this model (JL322A) does not have a expansion slot so you will not be able to install a 10Gbs module.

Your choice between a 2930F and 2930M are strongly depend on your stacking and power reduncy needs:

    • A 2930F (JL256A) have 48G Poe+ and 4SFP+ slots (listprice 5074euro)
    •  A 2930M (JL322A) have 48G Poe+ and 4SFP slots (listprice 5379euro)

The 2930F have VSF stacking technology that work on normal 10Gb SFP+ DAC cables at the front. (1Gb is possible but i dont recommended).

The 2930M have hardware stacking technology but require to add a stacking module and special stacking cables at the backsite. When need SFP+ you need to add a extra module in the backsite. Adding a SFP+ module and a stacking module your listprice is 8641euro.

The 2930F have a single integrated power supply where the 2930M have a option for a redundant powersupply and is hot replacable.

    Some questions:

    • Do you need redundant power supply's
    • Do you require backplane hardware backplane stacking (2x42Gb)
    • Do virtual VSF stacking with frontplane default DAC cables (2x10Gb) fit your solution.
    • Do you need SmarRate interfaces

Depends on your needs the 2930F series are very often use case in office environments.

    Greetings!

Yes, you can use the 4 combo ports for a total of 48 gigabit switch ports (either RJ45 or SFP, but not both at the same time for a given port number), and also install the JL083A module for 4 additional SFP+ 1/10G uplink ports, giving you a total of 52 usable switch ports.
