  • 1.  3500YL-24G (J8692A) - OSPF Capable??

    Posted Mar 16, 2012 08:11 AM

Could anyone tell me if the 3500YL-24G (J8692A) model switch is OSPF capable?

I don't seem to be able to see the command to enable it. All i see when entering router ? is RIP. No other protocols.

Your help on this would be very much appreciated.

Hi, you have to buy Premium license (J8993A) to enable OSPF.

I know HP announced late last year that they were abolishing all premium licenses for new equipment.  I think they should have gone one step further and granted license upgrades to existing customers.  At least, that's what they should have done if they really want to win the hearts of their customers.  I'm beginning to think my 2nd-hand 3400cl was a good purchase. :-)

If you check the products quickspecs at

    http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13282_div/13282_div.HTML

You can see in the Layer 3 routing section that OSPF and BGP support requires a Premium license.

If you take a look in the comments to that article you will see there was some clarification regarding this.

HP had to release new SKUs of the products to allow for the bundling of the Premium License. They only released new SKUs of existing products for a small number of the existing switches (unfortunately this did not include the 3500yl range).

New switch models since then (such as the 3800 series) have always come with the Premium License.
