Hello, we have just installed a new 5412Rzl2 with the following modules :

MM1   HP J9827A Management Module 5400Rzl2   Confidential Info Erased     Active   YES   1

      A     HP J9987A 24p 10/100/1000BASE-T v3 ... Confidential Info Erased  Up       YES   3

      B     HP J9987A 24p 10/100/1000BASE-T v3 ...                     Up       YES   3

      C     HP J9986A 24p 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE...                   Up       YES   3

      D     HP J9986A 24p 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE...                   Up       YES   3

      E     HP J9990A 20p PoE+ / 4p SFP+ v3 zl2...                        Up       YES   3

      G     HP J9986A 24p 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE...                   Up       YES   3

The problem is that module A and B fail on boot, with 8 flashing orange ports each.  This is the post log:

Timestamp         Test Type  Port   Error Code

Silly question: which ArubaOS-Switch operating system software version (KB.xx.xxxx) is your Aruba 5400R zl2 currently running on?

Then...it could be a software bug (or not)...what's the output of show macsec status CLI Command (aim to understand if MACsec is used or not)?

    Thanks for your help.

System software is the latest, 16.04.0009. I also tried to boot the secondary firmware that is 16.02.0015 with the 'same' problem (that version doesn't have the show system post command but I can see the fault indicator and ports orange led).

Macsec is disabled, output of "show macsec status" is

MACsec is not enabled on any port.

This is a "out of the box" configuration of product JL001A, we just added the two J9987A modules on slot A and B after moving down the built-in 4 modules.

I think I followed the correct procedure to remove the modules from A and B and insert the new ones. I'm going to try a "master" reset today.

    Any hint is really appreciated.

So you physically removed Modules installed on Slots A, B, C and D (respectively J9986A, J9986A, J9990A and J9986A), moved them to lower slots, respectively, Slots C, D (already configured for J9990A and J9986A), E and F (originally empty) freeing up Slots A and B...what procedure did you followed to achive that? did you performed a Switch reboot?

Yes; I think J9990A was on slot A not C but not really sure. Anyway I used the "no module <n>", then "reload module <n>".

I also tried a master reset to factory defaults, then reinstalling the "bad" modules on slot E and F with the same result.

I'm in touch with HPE now, I think they'll replace the two modules.

    Thank you
