  • 1.  575 overheating

    Hi,

    I have case open with HPE, but just wanted to see if anybody else has this problem. I have two 575 outdoor access points. SW 8.7.1.1. Both of them are regularly overheating. While outside temperature is below zero celsius, once happened even below -20 celcius. 

    Problem goes away when I shut down PoE for 30 seconds. Just reboot does not help, just 3 seconds without power does not help. But 30 seconds without power and they work OK for a week or two.

    You should definitely open a TAC case about this issue.

    It's indeed very surprising that your AP overheat with -20c outside. Could be a log error and the AP's could actually be too cold, I seem to recall they have a heater built-in for those situations.

    Are the AP's connected to a POE+ capable switch/injector ?

    Hi,
    yeah, I asked about the heater but HPE said there is no heater.
    Curious thing is that errors have happened mostly on exact same time. My two AP:s are on different buildings but still at least 2 times error have started same day.

    Hi,

    We seem to be having the same issue with the AP-518. They are deployed in large -22C freezers. They were deployed while the freezers were still in room temperature. Once they froze to -22C we receive the same messages. We tried downgrading the OS to 8.7.0.0 to no avail. Opening a ticket we received the below response:

    As per the records, we see that the issue has been reported earlier under the Bug ID: AOS-213941.

    Seems like a really poor piece of software causing this, rendering the access point inoperable. As this seems to affect industrial-grade/outdoor-grade 5xx APs, we have no workaround to offer to the client.

    Sorry for the issues, the cause is an issue in software where the CPU thermals are reported but parsed incorrectly. They will be fixed in 8.7.1.2, 8.6.0.9, and will be included in the upcoming 8.8 release. If you work with TAC they may have a c-build to use between now and release of the fixes. I apologize for the issues. And note all Aruba outdoor APs do not use any heating elements, all parts are industrial rated. In this case, it's just a bad parser incorrectly reading the values of temp.

    this was good information! And it came in just in time, I was going to rent a crane tomorrow to replace AP with similar I got from support. But it would have been waste of money and time. I have now asked for the c-build from support.
