  • 1.  8360 100% CPU

    Posted Nov 29, 2021 04:48 AM
    Hi all,

We have recently purchased a pair of Aruba 8360s to replace an old Comware core at one of our sites.

So far we have them set up with VSX and connected to the existing core but with nothing connected downstream so the only config on them is a LAG to the existing core, VSX and radius authentication.

Our monitoring software keeps telling us they are very regularly hitting 100% CPU usage so we logged a ticket with Aruba who told us this is just VSX syncing and not to worry about it so I'm wondering if:

Does anyone else see this behaviour?
Should we just accept this behaviour and put up with the alerts?
    Are we being fobbed off?!

    Many thanks.

you can login to one of the switches and you should be able to see the CPU and memory utilisaiton from the WebUI.

Thanks, I have checked the CPU on the switches themselves as the alerts occur, this is one:
    and this is another:

Interestingly, if I look at the CPU stats on the WebUI, I see some 70-80% peaks but no 100%. I understand from SNMP that there are 4 cores, perhaps only 1 or 2 are hitting 100% and the WebUI takes an average over all 4?

ok, what version of CX firmware are you running on them? if it is the default firmware that came with the switches, perhaps you need to upgrade it.
you can find all the firmware form the ASP web site

Not exactly, in late September the ArubaOS-CX 10.08.1010 was released (I'm not saying that it will improve what you're observing...). Out of curiosity on our 8360 AOS-CX 10.08.1010 VSX - currently serving L2 features with just some VSX LAGs - I saw some CPU usage peaks (I believe with a near hourly frequency) but absolutely nothing reaching 100% (maybe 60% at worst).

i suggest to upgrade to that version ( 10.08.1010) and see if it helps. if not please contact the support centre.

    I have a VSX of  8360's version LL.10.08.0001, I don't see CPU pikes.

You can check all 4 cores with this OID : .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.3.1.2
