  • 1.  A5800 and HP X110 100M SFP LC FX Transceiver (JD102B)

    Posted Feb 03, 2013 08:45 PM

I recently installed a HP X110 into an A5800 switch.  I am unable to obtain a link with this module.  The other end is a known working 100M FX fibre converter.

Displaying the interface results in the following:-

    Ten-GigabitEthernet1/0/51 current state: DOWN
IP Packet Frame Type: PKTFMT_ETHNT_2, Hardware Address: 0023-8957-5fbb
    Loopback is not set
Media type is optical fiber,Port hardware type is 100_BASE_SX_SFP

Why does it say the hardware type is 100_BASE_SX?  It should be FX.  I checked the model no. etc of the transceiver and it is correct.  I know it is a H3C transceiver with a HP sticker over the top so I am wondering if it is actually an incorrect module?  I would have expected 1000_BASE_SX though if it was incorrect.

Does anyone have a 100FX module installed that can advise of their configuration output please?

    James.

Are you sure the SFP+ slots in the 5800 even supports 100Mbit? The datasheet says they are 1000/10000 ports. Can't say that I've tested myself though.

Possibly they only work with the 16 port SFP module, then.

    Te1/0/51 sounds like a on-board interface.

1/0/51 is the 3rd sfp+ port.  It's a real port and as you can see from the config it can see the module.

The module is listed as compatible according to the accessories page at http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/products/switches/HP_5800_Switch_Series/index.aspx#JD102B

If you look at that same page under Models you'll also see "4 fixed 1000/10000 SFP+ ports" mentioned on all models. Are you able to configure "speed 100" on the interface?

I think Richard was right and the reason that the 100Mbit SFP is listed as compatible on the accessories page is that it might be compatible with the "HP 5800 16-port SFP Module (JC095A)" module. Call your HP rep and make sure.
