  • 1.  About AP's operating range and antenna

Hi. I'm just getting started with WLAN.

The visiting customer asked about the operating range of the AP and could not respond. I know there are a lot of variables because AP is a wireless network, but I think there is a basic distance for that AP.

For example, if IAP-305 has an antenna and a distance value that can be found in the specification ...

I need information that the customer can hear and do.
If there is an indicator, I would appreciate it if you share.

It may not be accurate because it was translated into translator. Thank you for your reply.

There's plenty of resources on the web to talk about indoor range. Range is dictated by AP power and antennas, environment, etc. WLAN design is not and should not be done based on range assumptions anymore though.

The better thing to do is plan for what the reqired data rates are, map that to whatever MCS rate is and design to that.

    Thank you for reply

Do not you have an approximate indicator to tell the customer?

In open space, with clean RF and no interference, range for an indoor AP could be as high as 300ft/100m away from the AP at some of the lowest/slowest data rates. That is NOT a design guidance from a coverage perspective, only a possibility under the right circumstances. General design guidance would be an AP per 1500-2000 square feet (150-180sq m) for a solid indoor office design.
