    Hi.

I'm relatively new to Aruba and the concepts of VSF.

I'm looking to add a 4th member to an existing 3 switch 2930F VSF stack. Looking through some guides and discussions online, I understand the configuration.

However, due to physical positioning / placement of the existing switches, can I configure 'switch 4' in the stack but physically connect it between switch 1 and 2?

    E.g.

    Existing stack

    Proposed placement

If the VSF stack allows the switches to be connected like this it removes having to re-number the existing switches (and the worry of possibly needing to re-configure existing switch ports if the switch number changes), and satisfies my OCD for cables to be needlessly trailing between cabs.

From an intrigue perspective, I'm curious to know if the numbering and order needs to be considered when adding switches to a VSF loop, o if it doesn't really matter!

Will raise another query if preferred, but Is there any config I can look for in the existing stack which confirms if the stack switches were added and configured automatically (adding the mac address to the commander switch and letting the member switch boot up) or manually (boot each switch and add VSF config first)

the running config does include the type and mac address for switches, but not sure if this will be shown regardless of how the existing switches were configured for the VSF stack -

    Regards,

    Andy
