  • 1.  Adding different APs to different groups in Aruba Central

    Posted Mar 27, 2023 01:41 AM

    Hello there,

I'm new to Aruba Central and I'll be so grateful if someone can help/guide us here.

Basically, We've got 3 Aruba AP types (615, 635 & 655) in one site, which will be managed via Aruba Central.
The same SSIDs & management VLAN will be used across all these APs, and I've created one group for 615 ( one VC & 15 APs). However, when I moved AP 635 to separate group, it didn't come online and stuck at  SetMeUp.

The question is, can I create 3 different  groups in Central for each AP type? If not, can the VC of 615 group be the VC for 635 & 655 APs ? ( currently with different firmware version.

I've read that you can't have multiple VCs that use the same L2 VLAN, and I'm just wondering if there's a better way to manage these different APs in central

    Thanks

you can just use one group for all your APs in which they have a common configuration irrespective of their model type.

you need to ensure they run the same firmware, from those AP models, AP-615 is the latest model to be released and that needs a min Instant version of 8.11.x. That means you need to esnure the other Instant APs AP-635 and AP-655 are running that version.

Thanks so much for your reply.

    AP-615 has version 8.11.0.1_85785 while AP-635 has version 8.10.0.0_83812.

Will AP-635 be downloading the 8.11.0.1 from the AP-615 VC  when joining the cluster ?

    no it will not.

i suggest first  connect the AP-635, upgrade the firmware and then add AP-615.

for them to form a cluster, they need to be on the same VLAN  and have layer 2 adjacency

Thanks, AP-635 firmware has been upgraded and eventually joined the cluster. However, I discover that there's no VC in that group AP list (but I can access the VC virtual IP)

Also, would you recommend upgrade all the cluster to firmware version 10 ?

it depends, you can refer to this AOS10 overview  and see if it has anything you need for your deployment that is currently not available in the current firmware version.
