Hi everyone.

We have a running Aruba instant deployment consisting of 30x Aruba 303 access points. Is it possible to add few 505 or 515 model AP's to this instant?

We are also planning on building another instant deployment on Aruba 505 devices, but we were thinking of using few 515 in crucial spots where density of clients might be higher. Is that usual thing to do, and can Instant Deployment be based on mix of 505 and 515 devices?

Yes you can cluster multiple models together. They all need to be running the same version in order to achieve this. You will have to manually upgrade each new AP type to the same version as the current cluster. Once you have the new AP added, any AP connecting after that will download the code from the "seed ap" and upgrade itself to the same version after booting.

You will need to create two "seed aps"

510s use Draco (for example ArubaInstant_Draco_8.10.0.6_86193) 

505s uses Gemini (for example ArubaInstant_Gemini_8.10.0.6_86193)

I just went through this and can confirm. I added a 515 to several 315's. As DB86 said, the controller won't even see the AP if it is not at the identical firmware. I wanted to add that after you add a mixed version, you will no longer be able to upload a firmware file by browsing your PC for the file. You have to use a URL format which caused me to find a standalone web utility to use. I ended up using a utility called UniServer Zero which doesn't need to be installed. You can run as an exe and launch Apache. Just move your firmware file to the www root folder.

I'm not sure why adding the second model removes the upload button option? I just wanted you to know.
