Hello Everyone,
Objective of this post is to educate community members about the enhancement feature "PoE Allocate by Class/Usage Support in LUR/DUR/VSA" introduced as part of AOS-CX 10.12 Release.
- AOS-CX Switches support following two methods for PoE allocation
- The PSE allocated power value will be the LLDP power when LLDP exchange takes place between the PSE and the PD. When there is no LLDP negotiation it works as follows
- Allocation by Usage(Default) - PSE Allocated Power Value will be the actual instantaneous power draw and reserve power based on actual consumption
- Allocation by Class – PSE Allocated Power value and reserve Power will be based on PD Class
- Prior to 10.12, PoE allocation can be configured only from interface context
AOS-CX(config)# interface 1/1/3
AOS-CX(config-if)# power-over-ethernet allocate-by
class Allocate power based on device class or LLDP requested power if lower
usage Allocate power based on LLDP requested power or actual consumption by the device
- But in a colorless port deployment, it will be overhead for the admin to modify this allocation based on device type. Hence to overcome this problem , from 10.12 release onwards we do have support for this configuration in LUR/DUR/VSA
6300(config)# port-access role <role-name>
6300(config-pa-role)# poe-allocate-by
class Allocate power based on device class or LLDP requested power if lower.
usage Allocate power based on LLDP requested power or actual consumption by
the device.
