  • 1.  AOS-S UI mode with existing config - Now supported??

    Posted Nov 23, 2024 05:57 AM

Has Aruba Central process for importing existing config changed recently?

I understand previously you couldn't add a device with existing config to UI group without factory reset.

Just did some testing and it seems that you can do this now?

I've taken an existing 2930F with local config, imported to Central, it comes up in unprovisoned group and when i change it to an existing group with AOS-S config, it synchronises and replaces the config.

I also tested by moving between UI groups and it worked 100%

No changes i can see in the process in central user guide?

A welcome change if this is correct?

yes that has changed for quite awhile. for both CX and AOS-S switches.

you can find the options in online doco

    Hey Ariya,

The online guides suggest you must factory reset the device and delete it from central to allow it to join an existing group.

What i'm seeing is that this is no longer necessary.

Example below, 2930F switch in Monitor Only mode.

If i move a device to a UI Group with existing config, it will provision without error:

Config sync doesn't seem to happen until you make a change to the group but when i do (i.e. push a new vlan) it sync's the whole config without the need to delete / factory reset.

    Hi all,

So, are you saying it is possible to add aos-s and aos-cx preconfigured switches to aruba central without the need of factory reset? The central is on premise.

The linked that I shared earlier was for Aruba Central that supports adding aos-s and cx preconfigured switches without the need for factory reset.

Central on Prem (COP) is different and it needs for the switches to be factory reset to start the ZTP process which is outlined here Connecting HPE Aruba Networking Switches to HPE Aruba Networking Central On-Premises

    Hi Ari,

Thanks for the response. If we make the switch factory default does it receive IP address through dhcp server (do we have to setup a dhcp server)?

yes a factory defaulted switch will require DHCP server to provide IP address, DNS and default gateway for it to be able to reach Aruba Central.

Ok. May I ask if you have ever worked with aruba cop before? Because I have observed a lot of limitations on it especially on the single node cluster.

there are two different products with different features. it is best to get in touch with your local HPE Aruba SE to take you through various feature comparison, etc.
