  • 1.  AP Auto-Upgrade When Connecting To A New Controller

    Posted Sep 17, 2020 11:52 AM

Was curious if anyone knows a way to disable AP's auto-upgrading when connecting to a controller that's on a higher code version that the AP is on.

I have 70 older RAPs on a controller running 6.5 code (RAP-155's, RAP-3's).  If the Internet and/or controller is lost at that location I have a backup LMS IP configured so all 70 RAPs fail over to a controller at a remote site.  The controller at the remote site is soon to be upgraded to 8.x.  My concern is that in the event of a fail over the current RAPs will attempt to connect to the 8.x controller, be unable to take the new code because they're old, and bomb out, losing their config altogether and not be able to go back to the 6.x controller.

Is there a way for AP's to not auto-upgrade when going to a controller on a higher version?  I know that 8.x is a whole different ballgame, so hypothetically what if the controller was a higher version of 6.x?  Could you stop it from auto-upgrading to the higher level of 6.x code?

    Remove the backup LMS.

Thanks, that was the plan.  But still curious if there's a way to stop an auto-upgrade in any AP-connects-to-controller-at-higher-OS-level situation.

    No.

An AP cannot be controlled by a controller unless the firmware matches.

    Great. Thanks for the info.
