  • 1.  AP Migration from AOS8 to AOS10

    Posted Nov 21, 2023 10:18 AM

I've looked at the below documentation and it doesn't seem to contain an answer. Is there a way to import my configuration from AOS 8 APs to the AOS10 group? We use Central to manage all of our AP635 devices, but they are on AOS8 and I'd like to work on migrating to AOS10.

As far as I can tell it sounds like it is just going to adopt whatever the config for the new AOS10 group is but there isnt a way to pull in and convert the AOS8 configuration. I'd like to move my APs to AOS10 but I also dont see the point of forcing customers reinventing the wheel when Aruba should be able to convert their own configuration data from one version to the next.

Am I missing something? Or is there really no choice but to rebuild my entire configuration?

AFAIK you have to build your configuration from scratch. you can not automatically convert AOS8 to AOS10 configuration.

    Agree with Ariyap.

AFAIK create a new AOS10 group, rebuild configuratiion and move the APs.

Yes, you must rebuild the configuration for AOS 10. Same as required when AOS 8 was initially released and migrating from AOS 6 to AOS 8. https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/VSG/docs/200-companion-guides/080-campus-companions/010-aos10-adoption-technote/aos10-adoption-010-Preparation/

Not trying to be a troll, and I realize it is unlikely the couple of Aruba employees who see this have any say over it anyway. But how exactly does that fit with the "Customer First, Customer Last" motto?

I realize its a new codebase, but Aruba wrote the both versions of the code. So even if variable names or db schema changes, you have the source for both to convert it for the customer automatically. At least 90% of the settings are going to be identical. SSID, Radius Config, Roles and their associated security permissions, etc. All of that could be easily imported rather than forcing a ground up rebuild that requires another full round of testing and verification to make sure everything is correct.

It is just extremely frustrating to be looking at duplicating a bunch of work I did under 2 years ago when deploying new APs.
