  • 1.  AP SYS LED system in orange

Good morning, I have the following AP 635 with Aruba9004 controllers. Currently, the APs show the system in orange. How can I make it change to green? Lastly, I have them connected to Cisco 9300 switches.

    AP SYS ORANGE

Is LLDP enable such that the AP can negotiate class 6 POE with the switch?

The switch may only deliver class 4 to the AP, and by default that puts it into "restricted mode" where the system LED is orange.

The (only) restriction in that case is that the USB port is disabled..

The easiest way to turn that LED green is to enable IPM in the system (which BTW is the default in recent code). IPM will remove any default restrictions, and only apply them if it is actually needed (by observing power consumption in real time). Since you're likely not even using USB and will not operate the AP in worst case mode, it is unlikely that IPM will do anything (and the LED will remain green).

Or you could ensure that your Cisco switch delivers class 6 POE to the AP.

Thank you very much for the response. From what I could check, my switch is PoE Class 4 (30W), maybe that is a limitation for the APs.

One more question: does enabling the IPM have any impact on my operation?

You can configure it not to reduce power or turn off the radios, but these are default settings applied until it gets to the power budget allowed.

    • Default priority steps: Common default steps, which are applied in order, include:
      • Disable USB.
      • Reduce radio power by 3 dB.
      • Reduce 2.4 GHz chains to 2x2.
      • Reduce 2.4 GHz chains to 1x1.
      • Throttle CPU to 75% of max.
      • Disable radio.

Unlikely in your case. IPM will only take any actions (apply reductions; not that the set and order/priority are configurable) when the actual AP power consumption is about to exceed the class 4 budget (25.5W). That is unlikely. For example, when not using USB, you will never hit this number.

Do you have LLDP enabled on the switch?

Correct, it is enabled within the switch configuration.

And the AP's are seen as neighbors? Do they appear in the controller and show the WLAN as up?   There could be several reasons they are showing orange.
