Wireless Access

I was hoping someone might be able to help me with a Aruba / Dell w-ap274 I have.  I am trying to add it to a network of 3 x IAP225 but it appears to be stuck in a boot up loop.  it gets to "running ADP...." and then reboots. any help much appreciated.

Are these both Aruba or Dell APs or a mixture of both. Are you certain the AP-274 is indeed an IAP (it will state IAP on the sticker...) and not an AP. If it is an 'AP' it will require a controller and will not work in the IAP mode.​

Hi Criag, they are all Dell W series as I believe Dell and Aruba don't play well together. All 3 AP225s are all IAPs, one serving as master. the 274 is not an IAP.
I'm watching the 274 boot, it is issued an IP address on the same subnet as the master IAP225, it then runs ADP, looking for the master.  Looks like it can't see it and reboots. I have even physically connected them both to the same unmanaged switch and no luck...  I have another IAP225 doing exactly the same thing.  I'm sure I am doing something stupid but I have added an IAP225 already and it was simple, showed up in the IAP225 master web management interface.

If you see ADP messages, the AP is a campus AP (not Instant) or an Instant converted to campus mode.

Check the backside stickers if you have AP or IAP models. AP models require an external controller, IAP models can use a built-in virtual-controller.

As your AP-274 is not an Instant model, it will not function as part of an Instant cluster.
If you have an IAP-225 showing ADP messages, you can use the pinhole button on the back to factory reset the AP and it should come back in Instant mode. If that AP is a campus AP model as well, the same applies that it will not work as part of an instant cluster, only with an external controller.

Hi Herman, am I correct in understanding your statement that I can only add IAPs to a mesh managed by an IAP rather than an external controller? I was under the impression that I only need one IAP which could act as a Master and then add APs to the network?
