    Hello,

Many webpages say that the 2530 J9773A is L2 switch. On the other hand, I can assign IP addresses to our vlans and when I traceroute my inter vlan pings request, the packet is not send to the default gateway and after no ip addre command every packet destined to another vlan is sent to the gateway of the management vlan, whihic an SVI on aggregation switch in another building. The switch is performing L3 routing. Is not it ?

    Thanks for your help.

You can check the feature navigator, as far as I know the 2530 is positioned for L2 operations, but does some IP routing to a certain extend.(edited)

    Hello,

Does "SVI Multinetting: number of IPv4 addresses" mean the IP routing capability ?  From this navigator I understood that OS version makes the difference too. Right ? And what is the difference between both version in version menu ?  For example, YA.16.02.0018, ROM YA.15.19. Thanks

Ok, I found this post that confirms that you can configure multiple IP interfaces, but the 2530 does not route between them. So not sure what you are seeing, but it's not expected to work and the inter-VLAN routing should be done on a different device. A reason I can think of that you can have multiple SVIs is that you can configure DHCP Relay/IP helpers, and run a (limited) captive portal for wired users. Both require an IP address in the VLAN.

    Hello Oibrak,

YA.16.02.0018 is the software version you currently have on your switch. The other noted version (ROM YA.15.19) is the BootROM version. The BootROM is a firmware with limited features which would allow to do basic tasks like assigning IP address and downloading software to your device. You would use it if you end up with corrupted software image or another problem with the "traditional software" on your device. In a way you can compare the BootROM to the BIOS on your computed (although it's not a very accurate comparison).

As for multinetting it's briefly described here:
    https://techhub.hpe.com/eginfolib/networking/docs/switches/common/15-18/5998-8158_bog/content/ch06s02.html
However it's not inter-vlan routing, but more like an alternative to inter-vlan routing. Because you still have just a single VLAN. You have simply introduced multiple IP subnets in this vlan.

Regarding your original question - the 2530 switch is not considered a Layer 3 switch, because it doesn't support routing protocols like OSPF. It also doesn't support inter-vlan routing (typically enabled with "ip routing" command). You just have limited routing options like configuring a default gateway on the switch or manually adding static routes.
