Yes, you're correct. The error message means there isn't a newer image available, and the IAP displays a cryptic message.

It's 2026, and this is still not fixed. I encountered it today on a 635 indoor. The automatic update worked once, but now when I check it again, I get: "image_check_internal error 001 code 2" It took a lot of hunting and reading and comparing on the Internet for to arrive at the conclusion: "This is a bug, or a very poorly written status message. What it really means is: the firmware is up to date." Sure would be nice if it just said "the firmware is up to date" instead of saying "error." Getting "error" makes you think it is broken, and you do not know if the firmware is current or not. HP/HPE/Aruba: please fix this.
