  • 1.  Aruba 6100 PoE client power

    Hi all,

do Aruba 6100 PoE switches also support the 802.3af standard or only 802.3at (Class4)?
I have a Class 0 client (0.5 watt, 10 mA, 53 volt) which is causing problems, it doesn't turn on properly. Is it getting too much power? The client runs problem-free on a Class 0 PoE switch.

    Thank you!

I have now found out that there is a command "power-over-ethernet assigned-class X", but this can only be set between Class 3, 4, 6, not for devices with less power (class 0). Is there also a possibility?

I'm not familiar with Class 0 PoE, and it does not seem to exist or be equivalent to Class 3. It may help if you share what type of device you have...

I know that some older device don't fully support the PoE standard, and setting PoE pre-standard detect on ports for those devices may help.

    Hi Herman,

    thanks for your reply.
I came up with this because it is recognized as type class 0 on another switch from a different vendor and I found it in the same Wikipedia document under "Power levels available".
The devices are network controlled relays (IS net io – Rel 4) which receive power via poe and currently keep going on and off.
According to the manufacturer of the relays, this would probably work with Aruba switches, you would probably have to switch off the power limitation.
I tried your tip with the pre-std-detect command, unfortunately without success. Unfortunately, changing to assignd-class 3 didn't work either.
Do you have any other ideas what I could try?

    Thank you!

I'm out of options... saw that the device is 10/100 Mbps, so you may try to set the interface speed to 10 or 100 fixed and half or full duplex; just to see if that helps.

Otherwise, hopefully someone here has seen the issue, or you could open a TAC case to get this further investigated.
