    The VSX manual state: 
    • VSX binds two AOS-CX switches of the same model type to operate as one device for layer 2. 
       VSX also operates as independent nodes for layer 3.
    In various manuals, videos and labs, there is a constant recommendation to configure OSPF (v2/3).
    I this really necessary when a VSX pair in redundant cluster mode act as a switch/bridge ?? Only ?

    For knowledge purposes, I just wanted to know in VSX paired switches how we can perform the failover test.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    I don't believe that - speaking specifically about the nature of VSX only - a "failover" concept can be applied generically.

    I mean...as example...if you look at the VSX Member roles, they don't switch.

    Given that, a VSX Secondary - if left alone with the VSX Primary KO/Failed - will simply remain Secondary and, vice-versa, the same applies to the VSX Primary.

    Or...are you looking for other types of "failover mechanism" to test (maybe referenced to software deamons or Management Modules for modular ArubaOS CX switches)?

    For L2 operation (as a switch with or without MC-LAG interfaces) only, you don't need any OSPF configuration. I have many installations which do not run any dynamic routing protocols.

    However, if the VSX cluster acts as router, you may consider using OSPF to cover outages of an uplink of one of the routers if those are not MC-LAG interfaces. For instance in a setup where you have independent point-to-point interfaces to two independent external routers. As L2-traffic doesn't care about problems on layer 3 you want a backup path for the layer 3 if the "own" uplink to the upstream router failed. That's why one would typically create a point-to-point interface between the two VSX nodes and run OSPF to make the routes of the other node available to the one without an uplink.
