Hi.

This question is proberly ask before.

We are testing 2 x Aruba Mobililty controller (7205) control by 2 x Aruba Mobility Master (VM-Cluser).

We are gonna use this setup to test if we want to go the Controller way on our Instant clusters and dynamic segmentation.

Right now a have the 2 controlleres as "standalone" managede by MM so no cluster and VRRP and the switch has a primary and a secoundary controller in the user tunnel conf.

This works fine but this is only a active/standby solution and i would like to have some sort of load balancing cause if we go all in one the dynamic segmentation and access point we have over 3k device and no Aruba controller can manage more than 2k so we are think about getting 3 x 7240xm so we can have 1 down and the rest can take over.

the switch can only have 2 controller in the conf. so is the solution cluster with vrrp? is vrrp in controller able to do LB or is it only the master that manages the switch/access points?

In a cluster, the VRRP would serve two purposes (1) providing a single ip address  to point to for initial AP discovery of a cluster (2) Providing a virtual ip address for COA (only if you use COA on your radius server).

The load  balancing in the cluster is independent of VRRPs that are configured on the cluster.  Once an AP finds a member of a cluster, the cluster master will load balance that AP and the users  on it automatically whether a vrrp is configured or not.  You might want to configure a VRRP manually so that your aruba-master dns entry or your dhcp option points to a single, highly available ip address for initial cluster discovery.  After APS discover a cluster, they no longer use a discovery method, even upon reboot, unless they cannot find any of the ip addresses in the cluster.
