  • 1.  Aruba S1500 12P - can I replace RAM?

    Posted Jan 05, 2024 02:33 AM

I know this switch is well EOL, I'm mainly just curious (fun weekend project?):

I got a used Aruba S1500 12P for home use, and 2 days into using it, it crashed and the RAM test on all subsequent boots failed.

Is there a way to replace the RAM on this switch? (Or if there's a different solution at all, besides the obvious)

    CPBoot 1.0.46.0 (build 43231)
    Built: 2014-04-15 at 10:35:41
1024MB DRAM init, XLS CPU, 64bit channel pair mode
    DDR2 DRAM running at 533Mhz
    DRAM: Total = (0x40000000) 1024 MB

As you mentioned, the S1500-12P is no longer supported, and as the device is broken already you may consider if you feel comfortable with that, to open the device and see if there are standard memory modules inside. If you are lucky (seems to be DDR2 modules) you can try to replace them and see if that works. It may be that memory is soldered on the circuit board, in which case it's harder (I would not even try) to replace the memory chips.

Be aware that opening a device voids warranty (but there is none at the moment) and there is a chance to get an electrical shock if you power the device while opened; keep your common sense about that.

The S1500 was usually sold with a lifetime warranty, so you might want to open a case.
