I just purchased a used S1500-24P and set up my VLANs but getting the following error when trying to save the configuration using the Web GUI.

        Error while saving configuration!
         Initiating session validation,please wait.

The configuration keeps getting wiped on reboot and when I try to run enable during ssh, it hangs.

This switch is end-of-life and end-of-support for a while already. Be informed that the switch very likely has (security) issues that won't be fixed as there will not be new releases of firmware.

What you see may indicate a hardware problem, as well it could be that modern web-browsers don't work anymore with older firmware versions. It may need to be upgraded. In such a case, configuration from the CLI should work... as well you may upgrade the firmware from the CLI (TFTP) if that works.

If that doesn't work, you could do a 'write erase all' from the command-line/console to fully factory-default the switch. Also, you may attempt to re-format the flash and reinstall the firmware from cpboot (if you have access to the firmware). If you have access to the serial console, you may see in the boot log more indications for hardware problems or other reasons why you can't save the configuration.
