    Hi all,

I have been searching the web / forum but did not find the issue we are experiencing.

We require to have a simple captive portal were users can register using email address only. When i go through the WLAN Wizard (Configuration > WLans > + > General (Guest) > VLAN > Security (Internal captive portal with email registration) > Access) and click finish the below error is popping up.

ERROR: Feature is not enabled in the license

Error: Role 'test-guest-logon' is Unknown Virtual AP profile " test "does not exist.

I have read that you do not need PEF ENG for this to work.

    Current setup:

    1. Aruba Controller 7030
    2. AP-305 (not IAP)
    3. Software Version ArubaOS 8.3.0.0 Build 64659
      NO PEF ENG Licence

    What is the way forward?

    Thanks in advance.

Does any other option allow you to complete the wizard for captive portal?

Without the below procedure I can only choose Employee and complete the WLAN configuration

I did the below procudure and was able to create the WLAN. When the user connects to the wifi the captive portal does not pop up. The user just connects and has  access to the internet.

    1) Enable PEF feature on Licensing Tab.

    2) Configure captive portal on WLAN

    3) Provision the AP

    4) Disable features ( if you don't disable it, OTHER  APs will stop broadcast ssid as you don't have license for PEF)

    5) Re-provision other Aps

8.3.0.0 is very old and probably has that bug in it.  I would try to upgrade to the latest, 8.3.0.10 to see if that is fixed.

Is there a procedure to upgrade to the newer version?

Furthermore, will this remove the current configuration?

    The 8.3.0.10 is here:  https://support.arubanetworks.com/DownloadSoftware/tabid/75/DMXModule/510/EntryId/36364/Default.aspx

It requires a support contract login however.

EDIT: It will not remove the current configuration.

    Yes.

I have upgraded as suggested but the issue persisted.

The WLAN has been created through the previous steps.

When a user connects to the captive portal wifi, it just connects without any authentication. The captive portal does not pop up.

When a user connects to the captive portal wifi, it just connects without any authentication. The captive portal does not pop up.

Have you assigned the Captive Portal to the user-role? For example:

    user-role logon-test
        captive-portal "test-cp"

    I partially found the issue.

If i enable PEF Licence (0 Licences). The captive Portal works but after a reboot the APS will not connect.

If i disable PEF Licence. The captive portal isnt working, clients connect without authentication and APS work.

Client + Controller are on the same VLAN

Client + Controller can ping the securearuba network

    Sorry I posted here..!

    Hello Bianco,

From the previous discussion I understand that you are trying to create a Captive Portal page and it is not working without PEF license or If you nable the PEF feature the APs are not conencting if there is a AP reboot.

I assume you have only AP license features installed on the controller.

No PEF-NG or RFP Licenses intstalled.

The problems, seems more related to the role and the PEF License.

You can create/delete/modify roles and policies, only if you have PEF installed.

I would suggest, instead of creating the Captive Portal over GUI, you can try to create it over CLI.

Or you can use the GUI, but change the role-name to the any of the default one, such as, guest--> for post authentication, logon--> without Captive Portal Ploicy& guest-logon--> with captive portal policy

Please share whether this solution worked out for you.
