  • 1.  Cisco SNMP trap for BPDU guard?

    Posted Feb 27, 2006 11:48 PM
    Hi guys!

    On out Catalyst 4000 L3 Switches, 12.2(18)EW1 I configured:

    >spanning-tree portfast bpduguard default

now whenever there is a loop the ports will go into error state (disable).

Is there a possibility to generate a SNMP trap for this event? I already see it in syslog...

Feb 28 10:32:04 XXXX 2155: .Feb 28 09:32:04 UTC: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_BPDUGUARD: Received BPDU on port FastEthernet6/26 with BPDU Guard enabled. Disabling port.

    thanks for your help.

    Cheers,

    marco

You can enable logging to hosts and use software to convert syslog messages to trap. OpenView NNM can do this, I think UNIX Swatch too.
I had problems with generating Port Security traps from CatOS - sending SNMP traps should work but I received none.
You can try to enable SNMP traps on CatOS by: set snmp trap enable bridge

    Hi Masmix!

Thanks for you answer. I found that I can enable syslog messages to be send as traps, as you suggested.

snmp-server host x.x.x.x public snmp syslog
logging history level 3 (e.g. errors)

...and now I see on the SYSLOG when a port is blocked: syslog event: "BLOCK_BPDUGUAR"

Don't see the port yet but with querying the MIB: clogHistMsgText from OV I should also get this.

    Thanks,

    marco
