  • 1.  ClearPass on Nutanix AHV?

I know this isn't officially supported but I have heard secondhand reports of this working.

Has anyone had experience attempting or running ClearPass on Nutanix?

It's unsupported indeed. I heard some people that made it work with the KVM hypervisor, but also some who experienced very poor performance compared to what would be expected from the hardware specifications.

So there is a reason that it's unsupported.

Maybe others have better experience or guidance, but the point of running unsupported seems reason enough to stay away from it to me.

    Thanks Herman,

Fair point re: support, I tend to agree 😊 I think we will recommend an alternative solution to the customer.

Welcome to 2025!  I'm sitting here wondering why this thread has gone cold, despite the feverishly hot hypervisor battle that's raging on with Broadcom/VMware acquisition.

Nutanix AHV is essentially KVM, and running CPPM on it works, apparently. See this thread over at Nutanix

I think that since HPE is developing HPE VM Essentials (aka VME - based on KVM), it makes sense for HPE/Aruba to qualify CPPM and other Aruba virtual appliances to support KVM and AHV in addition to VMware vSphere/ESX.

There are a variety of reasons, but first and foremost, while CPPM will run on AHV, the performance doesn't meet requirements.  Especially CPPM 6.11 on AHV.

As far as I know the support status of ClearPass on Nutanix has not changed; it should be written in the release notes or documentation.

If you are asking about roadmap, it may be best to discuss this topic with your local HPE Networking contact as roadmap cannot be discussed on public forums like Airheads.
