  • 1.  ClearPass VM 5k - reducing CPUs

    Hi,

I have a customer who is deploying the CP 5k on esx from the OVF template.

The load on clearpass won't be high and they want to reduce the number of cores to 4 is possible.  Will this cause any problems for clearpass?

    It will not be supported.

There is a reason for the requirements and you should NEVER go under the minimum requirements

Thanks Troy, do you know what the reason is?

If you want a real world example, we had our two 25k boxes with 4 vCPU and 16 GB RAM (instead of 12 CPU and 64 GB RAM) and we literally ran out of resources for everything except auth. Memory was swapping every 5 seconds. We're now at full spec :)

Just like I have stated in a few other posts,

The VM is QAed and designed to work with a minimum requirements, and those are what are on the VM install guide.

You can always go over but you should never go under even if you dont think the system needs it. Even though you have low traffic you may have to run reports and advance services that will need the processing power.
