    Hi,

I have an Aruba cluster with models IAP-205 and IAP-315, is it working correctly, I bought 2 AP-303, can I add it to the cluster?

Yes. They all need to be running the same version of firmware, which they can. You will need to upgrade one of the AP-303s first before adding it to the cluster. Then the other AP-303 will get its upgrade file from the first AP-303 when it joins.

It will broadcast a set me up SSID by default, or you can access the WebUI by its wired IP. From there you go to maintenance and  you can update the firmware. You can download the firmware from asp.arubanetworks.com and install it, or give it the upgrade URL.

Example of upgrade URL for AP-303 version 8.7.1.4_80581: http://images.arubanetworks.com/fwfiles/ArubaInstant_Ursa_8.7.1.4_80581

Today my cluster has firmware 6.5.4.9, the firmware version of the AP-303 is 8.3.0.0. Will I have to update my cluster's APs first in order to add the AP-303?

Yes. You will have to upgrade the existing first because the AP-303 APs do not have a 6.5.4.9 code available. Also, your AP-205s do not run any 8.x.x code. You would have to replace those as well to get the AP-303s integrated.

    Hi!

Since AP-205 and AP-303 don´t have any overlapping firmware where both are supported those will not be able to work in the same cluster. So either you´re looking at separating clusters or replacing those AP-205s which are edging nearer to end of support together with Instant OS 6.5.4.x.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi,

I have AP-105s running 8.6.0.11 on 7005 controllers. Maybe the IAP's different, but the controllers will support 105 and 205 APs up to version 8.6.x.x. But not higher (8.7, etc.). This gives us the ability to upgrade from 6.5 to 8.6 but we need MM-VA Mobility Master appliances, as the 7005s don't like 8.6. Then we'll replace the 105 / 205s with newer APs or IAPs.

    Regards,

    Hi!

Yeah that´s absolutely right, the maximum version differs depending on if you run the AP as instant or controller based. This is one of my favourite resources on that subject:
