Changing the driver will not help at all. The problem is between the BIOS and the card in the MiniPCI slot. The BIOS has the PCI IDs of all WLAN cards that it expects to be in the MiniPCI slot and will refuse to boot if ID of the card is not on its embedded list.

There are two reasons why this check would fail:
    1) An incorrect card was inserted, fix is to replace the card with a correct one

    2) A correct card is not initializing correctly and not reporting its PCI IDs correctly, fix is check the card and make sure that it is correctly inserted in the MiniPCI slot. If after attempting this re-seat and you still have a failure, it is possible that the card is bad and should be replaced.

The WLAN is inside the plastic case, but it is not "built in" in the sense that it is attached to the notebook's system board. It is attached via a "MiniPCI Slot". Thus there is the possibility that the card has not been put into the slot correctly and thus causing your problems.
