  • 1.  Double VLAN tagging / 802.1q-in-q

Do any HP switches implement Double VLAN tagging or if not, are there any plans to implement it in any of the procurve range? I think the correct name for it is.. IEEE 802.1Q-in-Q VLAN Tag, although i think it is also called, 802.1Q encapsulation, Double VLAN tagging or sometimes VLAN Tunnelling. It would be fantastic to see this in procurve range.

    Thanks.

    Found it on Cisco routers:

Cisco and HP have some sort of working arrangement. Don't know the terms but HP's Command Line interface on the procurves seems to be a version of Cisco IOS and their switches do CDP so I expect there is probably some hope HP will get it but so far Cisco does not seem to offer it on there own switches so until they do it probably won't filter down to HP.

Does appear that Foundry Net offers it on their switches.

Thanks for the reply. Indeed other platforms have it now.. it was Allied Telesyns latest kit where i noticed it first. I do hope HP have this in the pipeline as it will certainly make my life easier. :-)

There is a new standard coming up for q in q tagging. For this moment HP only supports Vlan aggregation on the 9300 series.
