  • 1.  Failing to establish WLAN connection on MSR954 JH297A router

    Posted May 03, 2017 06:34 AM

I'm at loss to figure out why I'm unable to properly connect to WiFi network configured on HPE JH297A router. I have radio link up, DHCP up & tested, serivice-template enabled, routing configured. I can't obtain an IP after I have logged in. Debugging shows nothing why this fails and is this security configuration issue or DHCP issue. Examples in IP Service Configuration Guide seem not to work properly for me.

Please provide me the simpliest template & other configuration necessary to have the HPE router working over WiFi with WEP keys.

Funnuly the router supports WPA2-PSK crypto but there's no word in manual about it.

Even when I configured the WiFi connection as opened (no WEP keys) it can't obtain an IP and just states can't connect to the network.

Trying to figure out the reason by sniffing with Wireshark I don't see any error message. That leads to the idea the router doesn't want to "cooperated" and I'm totally failing to understand what exactly causing it.

Can someone provide simplest WiFi setup configuration for MSR954 Comware 7 that will yield in assigning IP addresses via DHCP? I still fail to obtain an IP from DHCP when logging in to WiFi network configured on MSR954. It happens regardless do I have protected connection or open one. I susptect security works but somehow DHCP response does not get to the client.

Do I neet to define VLAN in service-template to be able to assgine IPs via DHCP at all?

The issue I was having was due to the fact by default the MSR954 JH297A VLANs come in a mode which won't fire them up even when WLAN-radio is assigned to it via service-template. No shutdown makes it active but will remain in DOWN / DOWN state.. That explains why I didn't get any traffic for Wireshark or debuging didn't show up any sign why it failed to happen.
