  • 1.  Features 6300 vs 8360

As we are getting more ArubaCX switches we are looking what to get for a lab setup. As we have mainly 6300 and 8360 we will have to decide if we can do with just 6300.

From comparing the datasheet I mainly notice not having VSX and Fabric composer on the 6300. Is there anything else people can think of?

Of course you have more interface options on the 8360, but we are not going to do 100Gig performance tests or such.

Hi! but - despite having common underlying ArubaOS-CX operating system roots - comparing (from both the feature standpoint and the hardware standpoint) the Aruba CX 6300 switch series with the Aruba CX 8360 switch series is like comparing apples with oranges, both are fruits...but...at the point that, looking at some HPE Aruba Networking validated designs, the 6300 is often used as the OoBM switch in a network of 8360...just to say. It all boils down to your specific network design requirements...maybe you will discover the Aruba CX 8100 switch series (younger 8360's brother with less features)...or do you just want to compare a 6300 versus a 8360 to discover supported software features differences (considering a specific ArubaOS-CX SSR/LSR software release)?

    Hi

For the information you are looking for you may use Feature Navigator:

    https://feature-navigator.arubanetworks.com/

Just select the two series and use the "hide common features" option to only show the differences.

6300 series are more the access kind of switches whereas 8360 are mostly used in high speed core networks / leaf-spine architectures.

    Regards,

    Thomas

When it comes to LAB environment i think you should focus on what do you need to test.

I do most of my lab using the CX simulator. I may validate configuration syntax, testing my Ansible stuff etc. This is great from a cost perspective.

A lot of things in the dataplane does not work in the simulator - then you need HW. But getting 8360s just for lab is quite expensive. 6300 does the same routing and EVPN-VXLAN but not VSX. If you want to cut cost and testing access switch features you may use 6200 also to test UBT, it all depends on your budget I think.

Thanks all for the input. Arne gave me some things to consider.
