    hi,

    Can someone tell me that is there Fiber LAN exists same like Ethernet LAN. Mean to say that in general we use Ethernet Switch and use Ethernet Copper cables to Built a LAN, is it possible that we use Fibre LAN switch with Fibre cables to Build a Fibre LAN ?

    Yes that is possible, as long as it is ethernet fiber that is okay.

    Fiber channel on the other hand is different and is used for storage solutions.

    Thanks Hobbs, do u have some Literature regarding this, actualy we r planning to implement Fiber LAN in near future.

    Most ProCurve switches have slots for fibre modules. The decision to choose copper vs. fibre for your network depends on a number of factors.

    What are you considering upgrading to fibre for?

    Sial,

    all your computers have network interface cards that use optical signalling (something like 100-FX, or something else)? Or you just want to link the switches among them with fiber instead of copper, but the computers have 100/1000-TX electrical signalling (RJ-45 connectors)?

    hi,

    systems are connected to switches with Coppoer(RJ-45) in current configuration, but we want to shift all copper LAN network over Fiber (all systems use fiber to connect with switches and use fiber to link the switches also).

    OK.
    You will need to match the optical standard of the computers' NICs to the optical standard of the switch ports. Available standards are:
    1. 100-FX (works for 2000 meters on multimode 50 and 62.5 micron fibers in full-duplex)
    2. 1000-SX (500 meters on multimode 50 micron and 400 MHz*km bandwidth*distance product); (550 meters on multimode 50 micron and 500 MHz*km bandwidth*distance product)
    3. 1000-LX (550 meters on multimode with Mode Conditiong Patchcord); (300 meters on multimode without Mode Conditiong Patchcord); (5000 meters on singlemode)
    4. 1000-LH (5000 meters on singlemode)
    5. 1000-ZX (70000 meters on singlemode)
