Hi,

We have a HP Procurve switch infrastructure with following hardware:

1 HP 4000M (HPJ4121A)
1 HP 2424M (HPJ4093A)
1 HP 2424M (HPJ4093A)

Due to physical constrains, we need to expand the infrastructure. I would like to know if:

A) I can expand these switches with Gigabit connections to "stack" or inter-connect them. The switches are on different floors!

B) Can these switches be extended with extra port modules? Is there any redundancy module availlable ?

C) If A and B are possible, what are the part numbers of the modules I need?

A) Yes it is/was possible

B) Yes, on the extra modules. NO, on the redundancy and availability.

C) The Parts you are looking for are all obsolete and best chance is Ebay or another 2ndhand store.

Depending on how you would like to stack them.

For the 4000M look for:
J4113A Gigabit SX fiber SC-connector
or
J4114A Gibabit LX fiber SC-connector
or
J4115B Gigabit Copper RJ45 Cat5

For the 2424M
You need 2 Stacking modules J4130A (1 for each 2424M
and
J4113A/B Gigabit SX fiber transceiver
or
J4114A/B Gigabit LX fiber transceiver
or
J4115B Gigabit Copper transceiver

So depending on how you want to stack and if you want copper or fiber then the amount of transceivers and modules are depending on that.

With the 2424M I'm fairly certain that you must get the A versions of the transcievers to go into the J4130A. The reason that the B part number was introduced was to differentiate them as they were incompatibile with the stacking module.

Yep, my bad. As Matt states you need the A version of all transceivers to work with the stackingmodule.

Thanks Matt for the heads-up, it was a long time ago I worked with the Stackingmodules for the 24xx/16xx-series. Then you tend to forget these things.
