So I tried to configure an Instant On Outdoor access point, i. e. an AP27. When I try to log in, I only get a single web page that has options as to how to get an IP address and to set a VLAN. That's all, there's no way to configure anything but that.
That's totally useless. I need to configure this access point just like other instant on accesspoints, like the 215 or 505 models. From looking at some documentation, it seems it's not possible to configure an AP27 without an internet connection, and perhaps you even need a program on a smart phone which can't be downloaded anywhere. You can't call that 'instant on' at all. You have to call it 'being forced to go to extreme lengths to configure' access point --- or in short, 'instant off'.
Of course, access points do not have internet access on their management VLAN. There is no reason and no way that we would hand over our infrastructure to the internet. And of course, there are also no smart phones that could connect to the management VLAN.
So how do I get into the web interface to configure the AP27? Why doesn't it show up in the web interface of the 505 models, or the other way round?
If it can't be configured, we'll just have to return it and switch to models from other manufacturers that are configureable. It would be a pity because these Aruba access points are particularly nice devices because they are so easy to configure and work so well.
