I am trying to upgrade my Aruba 7030 controller which is redundant with vrrp in Master/Master-Backup state.

    I have some questions.

Which device should I upgrade first, Master or Backup?  There is no problem even if there is service downtime.

I want to pre-download the AP image. Can I do so after uploading the OS to the master controller?

    Preempt is set (delay 0).
If I proceed with Master after upgrading Backup, will the Master role be brought back immediately after upgrading the original Master?

    Thank you.

    Hi @KingG!

I operate some controllers, I upgrade them like this:

    • Create a flashbackup from both controllers and save it to another place (not just to the controllers).
    • Upload the images to the master and the backup controller too.
    • In the master controller I start to preload the image to all APs.
    • I always start the upgrade with the master controller. After you reboot it, the APs will go to the backup one (if the vrrp configs are good).
    • After that I wait for the master to come back, and when all APs start to come back to the master controller and they disappear from the original backup, I upgrade the backup one too.

"If I proceed with Master after upgrading Backup, will the Master role be brought back immediately after upgrading the original Master?"

    • If the vrrp configs are good, the original master will be the master after upgrade them. For this you should use priority in the vrrp configurations (master has the bigger priority number).
