I bought a Compaq Presario R3000Z laptop a couple of months ago without the internal wireless option, but now I want to add an internal wireless card. I bought an hp broadcom wireless card and installed it into the laptop. I installed the driver on the hp website, but there is no connection. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

    Hi there JW,

First make that the wireless card is properly installed, you can find that out from the device manger=>Network adapters category. To open device manager, type DEVMGMT.MSC in the start->run. For troubleshooting wireless network connectivity issues, you may like to refer to the below HP support site:

The device is working properly and the driver is up to date. How can I find out if the device is turned on, because since I didn't buy the laptop with internal wireless, there is no button that turns on or off the wireless card.

When you installed the wireless card were there two small cables around the MiniPCI slot that you attached? If not, then your WLAN device has no antennas and will not work. Compaq Presario platform that do not have the WLAN installed from the factory also do not have the necessary antennas installed either. Your best bet is to use a PC Card or USB connected device.

I bought antennaes and connected them to the wireless card, so that should not be a problem.
