Yesterday, we wanted to try to add a test controller HP 830 24 PoE+ to IMC and managed it thanks to IMC & WSM. But we had to face with few issues.

First the device was not fully recognize by IMC as you can check on the screen shot. I think it's not a problem of version because we installed the 5.2 for IMC and its modules and the HP 830 had the last iOS.

 

When we read the WSM documentation we found that:

Before you create a new AC + fit AP network in WSM, complete the following tasks:
• Configure the AC so that it can access the network.
• Connect fit APs to the AC, and make sure the fit APs and the AC can reach each other.
• Configure SNMP communities and specify the IP address of the WSM server host as the
management console for the AC, and add the AC to the IMC Platform.

 

But we didn't find this command on the HP 830 datasheet. 

 

So, I hope you can help us to perform the managment of our HP 830 with IMC and WSM.

I think the first place to start is by applying the latest patches to IMC + WSM. Patch number is E0401P05 for IMC itself, and E0402P05 for WSM. There's this note in the WSM release notes that says this:

 

Features released in IMC WSM 5.2 (E0402P05)

1. Supports H3C devices attached to the HP MIB tree.
2. Add the frequency point analysis feature for devices that support spectrum analysis.

Looking at my lab system running the latest patches, that device is properly classified. It doesn't surprise me that it needs a patch - I think that the 830 only came out a few months ago?

 

Start by getting that sorted out, then we'll work out how to set SNMP trap destinations on the 830.

Indeed I think it can fix the issue.

Can you precise the link where I can download the last patch you just talk about for IMC & WSM ?

Thank you, I found the IMC one, but not the WSM patch.

 

I will apply this patch right now and we will see if it works or not.
