This thread discusses the compatibility of the more recent (Comware 7 oriented) HP MSR GbE SIC modules at the original (Comware 5 based) 3Com/H3C MSR Router series.

Unfortunately there is only rare information available about any SIC module compatibility. A more recent document seems to be the “H3C MSR Router Series Comware 5 Interface Module Guide” (Version 20180730-C-1.17). (download.h3c.com/download.do?id=3669806) It mentions several Gigabit SIC Modules (under H3C name scheme) but no module / router compatibility matrix is present. The document describes just generally Comware 5 based MSR router models.

There are different newer HP MSR Gigabit Ethernet SIC available, - the most common are:

JG738A (H3C Name: RT-SIC-1GEC-V2), HP MSR 1-port GbE Combo SIC Module
--> support for this module (labeled on PCB as RT-SIC-1GEC-V2) was officially added in firmware version R2513P11 (for router model MSR1003-8).
Note, there exist different revisions of this SIC module with the same HP part number JG738A. I can confirm that modules with PCB label RT-U1S-1GEC are NOT working in a Comware 5 based MSR20-20 router.

JG739A (H3C Name: RT-SIC-4GSW), HP MSR 4-port Gig-T Switch SIC Module (H3C Name: RT-SIC-1GEC-V2)
--> no official support for this module in any Comware 5 MSR firmware mentioned

JG740A (H3C Name: RT-SIC-4GSWP), HP MSR 4-port Gig-T PoE Switch SIC Module
--> no official support for this module in any Comware 5 MSR firmware mentioned

It seems that SIC modules beginning with JG in the product numbers are newer than those with JD. Furthermore the JG parts are more compliant with newer MSR router models, - for example the original JD572A GbE Combo SIC module has some grave flaws in conjunction with the MSR1000, MSR2000 and MSR3000 router series. On these routers, the JD572A GbE Combo SIC module is falling back to 100Mbit operation or completely fails under heavy traffic/load.

Update 29.01.2019:
After intensive discussion with HPE tech support I can confirm that NO of these newer Gigabit SIC module is compatible to original H3C/3Com Comware 5 based router models. Only Gigabit SIC module JD572A (SIC-1GEC-H3) is compatible.  For more information see the second post.

Here follows a small status update. As already described the HP SIC module JG738A (labeled on PCB as RT-SIC-1GEC-V2) is supported according to the MSR firmware release notes since firmware version R2513P11.

However, this compatibility is unfortunately not always the case. Although that information is mentioned in the release notes it only belongs to the MSR1003-8 router model. I can confirm this for an original Comware 5 based MSR20-20 router model running firmware R2516P13. The RT-U1S-1GEC module is not recognized in any SIC slot, not slot 1 and not slot 2.

Update 29.01.2019:
After intensive discussion with HPE's tech support I can confirm that NO of the above mentioned “next generation” gigabit SIC modules (JG738A, JG739A, JG740A) are compatible to the original H3C/3Com MSR20, MSR30 and MSR50 router models. The mentioned H3C Comware 5 SIC module guide is in this regard misleading. The only compliant Gigabit SIC module for the original MSR Comware 5 router series is module JD572A (SIC-1GEC-H3).
