  • 1.  HP Teaming setup for SLB on A5820 switch

    Posted Sep 20, 2012 02:59 PM

This server is my CA Arcserve 16.1 backup server.    It has its own MSA 2012fc SAN with dual 4 Gbps fabric NICs.

I installed two NC522SFP 10 Gbps NICs in a ML350 G6.    I have 3 x 10 Gbps connections to a A5820 switch, fourth cable is on the way.    I see 30 Gbps RX and TX on the HP teaming software.   I only see traffic on one of the three active ports inbound during a backup.    Switch ports 2/0/13 - 2/0/16 for in static Link Aggregation Bridge.   The bridge shows all three ports active.

    [Americorp-Ten-GigabitEthernet2/0/16]display link-aggregation load-sharing mode

    Link-Aggregation Load-Sharing Mode:

Layer 2 traffic: packet type-based sharing

Layer 3 traffic: packet type-based sharing

I have two other IRF LACP groups for the C7000 Blade Center.  Each with 6 x 10 Gbps connections.

Would changing link-aggregation load-sharing mode source-ip destination-ip improve backup performance.

Probably depends, what are the characteristics of the backups traffic flow-wise? A lot of IP sources with the NAS as IP dest?

ML350 G6 has a single IP address.   It is on a dual 4 Gbps MSA 2012fc SAN.

I setup link aggregation load balancing mode source-ip destination-ip.     The source will be the C7000 Servers.

It´s sad, that ethernet frame based load balancing isn´t supported on A5500/A58XX switches...
