  • 1.  HPE 5130 ( JG937A EI + JH326A HI) Firmware issues

    Posted Apr 14, 2025 01:19 AM

    HI all,

We have a pile ( 23 ish ) of HPE 5130 switches, I am trying to upddate the firmware and apart from ONE thay are all failing, some are the EI version and some are the HI version.

They are all OLD firmware so the issues may be "You must install in this order..."

I uploaded the files via FTP, no issues, but when I run the command "boot-loader file flash:/5130EI-CMW710-R3507P18.ipe ....." I get "File is not an IPE package."

I then tried via web, but all I get is "Please Wait..." and spinning when I select the file to upload.

    Any help or ideas?

    Stacey

Hi! Does the HPE 5130HI/EI Comware 7.10 R3507P18 software build's release notes report something special about upgrade restrictions/requirements? What are current Software builds (starting software) for those two set of HPE Switches?

If your switches are all running very old Comware 7.10 (say R11xx or R13xx) maybe it would be worth trying the R11xx -> R13xx -> R35xx upgrade path (where xx is the very latest of each Ryy software release: where you are -> R1121P03 -> R1311P03 -> R3507P18). These software span more years...

    Hi @StaceyH74.

Try to upload file via sftp instead of ftp.

Other option is to try with some older version. I didn't see any restrictions on upgrade path.

It is possible that ipe file get corrupted during ftp transfer. After all it's binary file.

    Best, Gorazd

    Hello Stacey,

Please make sure you are using correct file to upgrade switches. Please download the firmware from "https://networkingsupport.hpe.com/" search firmware using product number and select the terget firmware to download.

Note : EI and HI firmware are different.

I'm sharing the firmware download URL.

    • HPE FlexNetwork 5130 48G PoE+ 4SFP+ (370W) EI Switch (JG937A)

In My lab switch i'm running old firmware 3113P05 and upgrading to R3507P18.  ( While upgrading upgrading from very old version to new version, switch might reboot 2 times because switch will upgrade the bootrom. while upgrading firmware.
