  • 1.  IAP-325 putting power on Ethernet?

    I just hooked up an IAP-325 in instant mode. I have both ethernet ports connected to my switch, a Fortiswitch 124E-POE. The ports on the switch (1 & 2) are configured in an Active LACP trunk group. When the IAP-325 powers up, it's getting its power from PoE on port 2. At that point, port 1 goes into a PoE fault, with the error "Error Type 36 (Port is off: Voltage injection into the port)". When I unplug port 1, the fault immediately goes away. This seems to cause some other PoE issues on the switch, so it definitely has a negative impact. I've verified the same behavior on multiple IAP-325 APs. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Is there anything I can do to make it stop doing that?

    Is it possible that the behavior you observe is related to what's described in the attached (old) field bulletin?

    At the time the issue was thought to be limited to Huawei switches.

    Note that the (I)AP-32x POE implementation is tested and certified to comply with the Ethernet Alliance certification specs.

    Did you checked the wire-port profile? The IAP-325 can really also deliver POE.

    No it cannot. The (I)AP-324/325 does not have the ability to supply POE power.

    That does indeed look like what's happening here! The APs all have the old NNxxxxxxx serial number format, so they do have the older hardware from before the fix. I'll have to find out if work has any of the newer fixed hardware that I can nab instead. Or maybe see if I can disable that behavior on the FortiSwitch. Thanks for the good info.
