Network Management

I see many IMC modules retired.  It makes me wonder if IMC is a soon to be retired product.   Is it?  Is PCM the future?  I would like some guidance.

what concrete modules do you mean? I think there are new modules and new versions of older modules. iMC is multiplatform and very robust management tool and is the key part of whole HP FlexNetwork strategy/approach so I don't except that it will be retired.

PCM is simple and cheaper solutions than iMC and is focused on SMB and mainly on ex-ProCurve portfolio.

When I type in IMC in the support lookup tool I see a handful of IMC items and many with the dreaded * indicating it has been discontinued.  I look at the updates and I don't see that many.  I just didn't get a solid feeling about wether this product has a strong future.  It's very pricey so I just don't want to back the wrong horse.

autosearch in support and lookup tool is not always the best way to search especially in this case. I don't understand why but you are right that there are only few items and the rest is marked as discontinued.

Better way in this case is if you try to click above on category and then select software and click next and scroll down to HP Intelligent Management Center. There you can see a lot of stuff related to iMC.

So iMC is the future. Suppose that PCM/PCM+ will be supported too in the future for small/medium solutions based on E Series products because it is cheaper and offer basic PCM which is cost free.

I can assure you the future is clear and the roadmap is solid for IMC.  You will see some SKUs that have been discontinued, but typically there is another SKU with simillar functionality listed that is current.  The IMC platform is the marquee management platform for HP Networking.  A lot of new functionality being put into IMC - it gets a lot of attention internally and will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
