  • 1.  Is password recovery possible with a 2524?

    Posted Nov 29, 2012 10:32 PM

Hey all, I went through and changed my admin password on my ProCurve switches a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had the password down but I'm unable to get in to any of my switches. I have some 26xx and 28xx switches that have been "hardened" to prevent switch resets and a couple of 2524s. What I would like to do is recover the password on a 2524 (<-- can't harden them) because it'll be the same password on my hardened switches. Is password recovery on a 2524 possible? Before I get the usual responses yes I've tried some common typos but no joy, and yes I've tried my own common password variations.

    Thanks,

Um, if you re-read my original post you'll see that I'm trying to recover the password from a 2524 so I can access my 26xx and 28xx switches which have been hardened. Please see the following excerpt from the "Hardening ProCurve Switches" white paper:

The other capability built into ProCurve switches is the ability to reset the switch configuration to the factory default mode:

    ProCurve Switch(config)# [no] front-panel-security factory-reset

Executing this command prevents reset of the switch configuration by use of the front-panel Reset and Clear buttons.

I'm still trying to find a way to get in to my 26xx and 28xx switches without destroying the configurations. If you have any advice on that I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

There is no possibility to recover passwords from either units.

For the 2524 you need to use the clear button to reset and set a new password.

For the units with front panel security you will need to contact HP support for a one-time password. You need to have a serial connection to the units to execute some commands and the one-time-password does not clear the configs.

Thanks Mik-HPN, I now have restored access to my switches.

    Thanks again,
