    Hi

Has anyone with a XL Wireless module figured out how to define IDM locations when using this system? It seems that all wireless traffic arriving in the module can only be treated as a single location! We bought IDM to allow location based access control but now find this appears impossible in conjunction with the XL module! Surely their should be a way to drill down to wireless access point level?

It should at least be able to support Dynamic VLANs - so with the one SSID your users will be put into whatever VLAN they've been assigned to after they authenticate. You can then specify allowed times and access policies for those VLANs.

Locking this down to a specific radio though..... that's a good question. What you describe though does sound like a likely limitation.

What's the main reason you'd like to be able to do this? My idea about mobility is exactly that, you're mobile but wherever you connect you're limited to the usual access you've been given.

You can do location based access with the 700wl series or regular AP's, but I still prefer the WESM solution.

To clarify our reason. We are rolling out wireless access to students, initially in two test sites on the campus, library and refectory. We are interested in monitoring the relative use of the site and the time patterns of use. IDM gives us nice reporting tools to do this but at present WESM presents all our traffic as a single location to IDM. In future we are also likely to want different policies at different locations and again we bought IDM as the tool to deliver this. WESM and IDM don't currently seem to mesh in any useful way!
