  • 1.  newb question: what is difference between save vs backup configuration?

    Posted Jun 29, 2015 05:28 PM

I gone through all the doc's,  and I'm still unclear what the differences are between a device save configuration vs backup configuration.   I can see the backup configuration saves the startup & running config, and then I can then view, modify the configuration, or set it as a baseline.  The 'save configuration' is more vague and non-descriptive what it is doing and where it may be located.

If I'm viewing a device, these are located on right side menus under:

    • Device Details >Configuration Center > Backup Configuration File
    • Device Details > Device Management > Save Configuration

    I'm running iMC PLAT 7.1 E0303P10

I could be wrong but Save = save running config to saved configuration file on flash on the switch

Backup = copy saved configuration file to the iMC server database

Thanks raf!  I just confirmed this.   Doing the Save Configuration is similar to a 'write memory' in CLI.  The documentation is rather generic in describing this.
