Password Recovery for Aruba 7010 Controller

  • 1.  Password Recovery for Aruba 7010 Controller

    I've been asked to help with management of an Aruba network at a church.   While I have a lot of networking background, I've never used Aruba before.   Nobody knows what the admin password is (the person that set it all up is gone).  The front panel on the controller says that it running 8.5 software.

    I was able to make a USB console connection today and I thought I was home free on the password reset procedure.  Unfortunately, that was not the case.   

    User: password
    Password:
    (XXXX) *#configure terminal
    This controller is managed by a Mobility Master.
    Configuration changes can only be performed on the Mobility Master.
    (XXXX) *#mgmt-user admin root
                        ^
    Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

    I tried local-config enable and disaster-recovery on

    (XXXX) *#local-config enable
                    ^
    Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

    (XXXX) *#disaster-recovery on
    Error:You do not have permission to execute this command

    Anyone have any ideas of things to try?   TIA!

    This controller is managed by a Mobility Conductor (previously named MM). You would need to change the password from there.

    Ok, I appreciate the reply and your patience with my ignorance...

    Is this Mobility Conductor (formerly MM) a cloud based thing?  Or a separate piece of hardware located on site somewhere?   If hardware, is there a certain model number(or numbers) that I'm looking for)??

    It can be a VM or aruba hardware

    It is a controller , but it is managed by a Mobility conductor/ Master

    Thank you.   That is helpful.

    I haven't noticed any other Aruba hardware other than the 7010 controller and some switches.   I will go on another hunt around the building.

    I'll also look for the potential that it's running on a VM somewhere.

    Yeah, I'm starting to think that is the case - some service provider set this up and is managing remotely.   

    If so, any tricks to figure out who it is?

    Hi, 

    if you are on the controller you can do a "encypt disable" and after that a "show run"

    On the first lines of the config you can see the "conductorip" This is the Mobility Master or Conductor. 
    If it is correctly configured you should also find a line with "location" there.
