  • 1.  PoE on Ethernet cable, but data on SFP

Hello, I have a situation where I want to install a AP-375 with an SFP data uplink on a high pole. I can't get power up high with standard power adapter, so I am thinking of using a PoE injector at the bottom of the pole, and putting power (just power, no data) through an ethernet cable, up to the AP. Can that be done? Is the AP going to recognize the ethernet cable as just power, and have data on the optical wire, or is it going to get "confused".

    Hello Katai,

I've got confirmation from expert that this is a working configuration:

    "

Confirmed…I have already tested this on a 375. So long as the POE port doesn’t give out an IP address, it will pull IP address from the Fiber.

    "

    Hope this helps and regards,

    Richard

Note that the industrial optics MUST be used, any other optics (non temp hardened) will likely fail in short order due to the high temps inside the unit.
