    Hello,

I have a HP 2920 that was setup and now no one has the username or password to log into it.

We have tried the button combination to reset it and it does reset the config but it did not reset the users logins.

How do you reset the usernames and passwords on a HP 2920 or just reset the whole darn thing?

    Thank you,

    Tom

The reset button should provide you with console access, from which point you can "erase startup-config".

Otherwise, you can press reset and clear together as follows:

     - simultaneously press both the Reset and Clear buttons
     - continue to press the Clear button while releasing the Reset button.
     - after 25 seconds, when the Self Test LED begins to blink, release the Clear button

Yes sir, I have tried those solutions but when the router comes back up it asks for a login.

From what I read you have to use the command include-credentials for the user information to be included in the running config then when you erase the startup config it will erase that info and reset it but I guess that was not used.

I am hoping there is a way to reset the user logon settings aslo.

    Thank you for your reply,

    Tom

    What about console access?

What kind of a prompt do you get from the console port?

If you connect a laptop to the switch with the console cable and some kind of terminal program (I use PuTTY), most Procurve switches will show a startup menu when it boots. This menu will let you either start a debugging program (called Monitor ROM Console if I am remember correectly) or boot the primary or secondary software.

If you start the Monitor ROM Console you are not asked for any credentials. I did this last week on a troublesome 2530 switch, I don't know if the 2920 has something similar. Try it.

The commands I used for wiping the config was:

    cd /cfa0

    rm boot.ini

    boot

    See this article:

We have connected through the console and deleted the config thinking that would do it but the user information is stored someplace else I guess because it still request a user name and password.

Isn't the Manager password blank after you've done the restore?

I thought that also but when I try to login as admin or manager or user without a password it does not work.

The other switch I have just goes right in with the passwords left blank.

"If you lose the passwords, you can clear them by pressing the Clear button on the front of the
switch. This action deletes all password and user name protection from all of the switch’s interfaces."

Beleive it or not you are correct and I screwed up.

The clear button is not properly lined up on the switch and when I would depress it to clear the passwords I was not actually hitting the button

Once I got a flash light and looked in the hole and put a thumb tack in at the right angle it did work I am happy to say.

So thank you all for your support but I apologize for what seems like wasting your time.
